Not too long ago in the world of makeup, every look was geared to serve the usual — a smooth matte ‘baked’ complexion, sharply-contoured cheekbones and blinding highlights. TBH, with the right technique, everything from an even skin tone, thick brows, and prominent cheekbones are just a brush stroke away. While that sounds perfect, let’s be honest that the monsoon definitely does not allow the survival of a done up face. Luckily for us, minimal makeup looks are the talk of the town. In fact, they’re perfect for this time of the year. Contrasting to techniques like contour-and-highlight, minimal looks only helps enhance one’s features. A dab of concealer blended in at the right places, a barely-there blush tint on the cheeks, a slight hue to the lips, and there… you’re good to go. A tad too much to follow? Let’s break it down for you. Here’s a look at easy steps to achieve a minimal look before you head out for the day this monsoon. For mornings when you’ve barely five minutes to do your makeup before you rush out of the door, this 6-step guide is all you need.
Step 1 — Moisturise your skin
The key to any look is fresh even-toned skin. To get the perfect base, and moisturise your skin.
Step 2 — Conceal for an even tone
Work a dewy finish concealer (or a matte one if you’re worried about looking like a grease ball halfway through the day). Ensure that the concealer is a match to your skin tone. Apply it only where you need it most, and blend it out with your ring finger or a damp sponge until you get a look as natural as possible.
Lightly dust translucent powder over the face to set it.
Step 3 — Apply a blush for tint
Add a pinch of colour to your cheeks with a cheek stain. You can alternatively use a cream blush, which provides a natural-looking flush that will last through the day.
Step 4: Fill your brows
Use a tinted brow gel to tame stray eyebrow hairs and fill in the sparse spots in between.
Step 5: Use waterproof mascara
As annoying as it may get during removal, waterproof eye makeup is a must-try this season. A couple of coats of a good waterproof mascara will define and separate your lashes.
Step 6: Swipe your favourite lip product
Finally, use your favourite lip product (preferably a transfer-proof formulation) to finish the look. Ideally, a lip stain or a tinted lip balm in a shade slightly brighter than your natural lip colour is best to complete the look.
