This year around (and with every changing season), makeup trends are taking a bolder approach. We’ve seen the metallic lips, lilac lips, glitter hair roots, graphic liners, unicorn-highlighted cheeks, and so much more. And we’re now looking at the vibrant purple eye shadow trend. Just when you thought MUAs around the world were way too much into the ‘no makeup’ makeup look, pop-hued shadows are back into action. The royal purple took centerstage in 2017, and has been spotted everywhere from runways to the red carpets. Must we say, we’re totally digging the peppy vibe it gives off. Celebrities such as Lorde, Mandy Moore, Rihanna, Taraji P. Henson, Nina Dobrev, Katy Perry and others had their eyes swatched in shades of purple.
From runway to red carpet
For some inspiration from stars back home, look no further than Priyanka Chopra. The stunner embraced a purple lid and sported it on the red carpet at the Emmys just a few days ago. We have to say she was a headturner with matching bold lips and her makeup looked great against her monochrome outfit. Kudos to her makeup artist Pati Dubroff, who created the sultry look.
How to try
Wondering how to work this trend when you’re not a part of the red carpet? Go for a smokey eye, overall purple eyelids, just-blend purple on the crease, or line your eyes with a purple liner and smudge it gently. The bold purple shadow trend is definitely not for the faint-hearted. Lighter versions mixed with colours like taupe or coffee brown is a must-try if you’re not up for the one sweep purple. You can even mix a slight shimmer for a rather festive look. We love the hue is perfect no matter what your skin tone. Eggplant, lilac, plum, grape, lavender, there’s a shade in purple for everyone! So shed all your inhibitions and go forth to try the trending purple shadow.
