Trend Alert: Our Favourite 90s Accessory, Scrunchies, Are BACK

Trend Alert: Our Favourite 90s Accessory, Scrunchies, Are BACK

First, it was brown lipsticks. In no time, all the favourite accessories from the 90s, from chokers, crop tops to even midi skirts became a sudden obsession. And now, it’s SCRUNCHIES! The coveted hair accessory of those times are officially back, and honestly, we couldn’t be happier. Carrie Bradshaw’s rant — “No woman … would be caught dead at a hip downtown restaurant wearing a scrunchie! — is as dated as the hit 90s show, Sex and the City.

We really don’t understand why scrunchies earned their despicable reputation from, especially for an accessory that’s fun while being comfortable and functional. We wonder how many of you ever got around to committing to flimsy black hair ties. The hair tie has permanently adorned many wrists and also inspired the hair tie holder bracelet. We know it may be a little too delicate to hold up thick hair when one wants to sport a bun. Also, it’s in no position to support the weight of one’s hair when you’re wearing a high ponytail. And let’s not get started with the dreaded ponytail crease that it leaves behind.

Scrunchies now are far more sophisticated than their 90s counterparts. In fact, these even come in chambray and velvet giving them a luxe feel. Don’t believe us? Mansur Gavriel used vintage Italian fabrics for their NYFW Spring Summer 2018 collection. Also, check out Balenciaga’s Resort 2018 collection. It girls Bella Hadid, Selena Gomez, JLo, and Mandy Moore are wearing theirs with elan and we can’t wait to get our hands on some. Looks like every big name in the domain has given a nod to this upcoming trend. Does this also mean that perms and shoulder pads will be making a comeback as well? Personally, we can’t wait for perms to become a thing!

Go check out where the scrunchies featured this time around. Also, which 90s trend are you rooting for? Hit us in the comments below.
