The one red carpet that most of us eagerly await year after year is the Filmfare Awards. And this time as well, the 63rd Jio Filmfare Awards 2018 red carpet was kind of exceptional. Of course, there was a slew of celebrities who experimented sartorially. Some put their best foot forward and ranked high on the style charts. But the ones who disappointed were those we expected great looks from.
On any red carpet, there are bound to be hit and misses in the styling of celebrities. At the end of the day, there’s a lot that goes into a look — not only the outfit but the hair and makeup also plays a huge part. Also, on a given day, things can go wrong. That said, some red carpet choices do deserve recognition.
Who Wore What
While we’re rooting for those who made an effort to stand out from the crowd, we’re sure the others will make a comeback with their upcoming choices. After all, the awards season has only begun. Diana Penty looked stunning in her blush pink gown. Sonam Kapoor has almost always given us a great look on the red carpet or even when she’s off duty. But this time, her Vera Wang outfit did not help her one bit. Another look that fared less on the style charts was Alia’s extremely voluminous gown. A must-mention for the boys on the red carpet who looked great — dapper Shahid Kapoor in an offbeat all-white look, Arjun Kapoor sporting an Indo-contemporary outfit, and Saqib Saleem looking all spruced up.
Best Dressed List
Want to know who ruled the red carpet? We’ve got you all the info.
The off-the-shoulder, princessy gown by Kujta & Meri is probably
one of Parineeti Chopra's best look till date.
One of our favourite new-age actors, Raj Kummar Rao, has been slaying his red carpet looks.
We love him in this sleek Giorgio Arman suit.
Preity Zinta's Garimon Roferos Couture gown with floral embroidery on it
was another great look on the red carpet.
Count on Ayushmann Khurrana's stylist Isha Bhansali to give him an outfit that'll place him on the best-dressed list.
This U N I T kurta layered with a Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna jacket (and trousers) was a perfect Indo-contemporary look.
Cheery yellow has been the red carpet colour for seasons now. And Neha Dhupia made the perfect choice
with her Sandy Nour custom-gown.
When it comes to over-the-top choices on the red carpet, most of us are prepared to expect it from
Ranveer Singh. It was no different this time, in a bespoke Karrtik D suit that was 'overtly' filmy. Not a fan!
Kajol went for a luxe-looking bespoke Manish Malhotra gown in marsala.
Not too sure about the fringed sleeves, but she did look good with tousled open tresses.
Miss World Manushi Chillar was seen in an asymmetrical and voluminous scarlet gown
by Sonakshi Raaj. Keeping the accessories blingy, she looked good.
Athiya Shetty wore a Tarek Sinno gown with ruffled sleeves. Ami Patel always makes Athiya look her best,
though it'd be nice to see her experiment with her hair too (like she's doing with her makeup of late).
We love these sartorial risks Shahid Kapoor has been taking on the red carpet. Head-to-toe white is a
difficult look to pull off, but he does it effortlessly. Here he's seen in a Gaurav Gupta ensemble.
Madhuri Dixit wore a Mark Bumgarner gown for her red carpet appearance. We like the floral print on the bodice as well as the cutout sleeves. She looked great, don't you think?
Alia Bhatt's uber-voluminous tulle Monsoori gown did not flatter her one bit. No doubt that her hair and makeup was
on point, but we think her sartorial choice didn't make the cut one bit.
We're liking how Diana Penty is making perfect styling choices of late. This one-shoulder Gaurav Gupta gown
in blush pink was again, one of the best of the night.
Working a contemporary band jacket over a draped sherwani, Arjun Kapoor's contemporary desi
look was impressive.
For the Filmfare 2018 red carpet, Sonal sported a João Rôlo Couture gown with a sheer and embroidered
bodice and plumed sleeves. She looked nice!
Dapper Saqib Saleem spruced up neatly in a double-breasted suit by Anuj Madaan.
Talk about owning the red carpet... here's a look we loved!
This teal mermaid gown worn by Surveen Chawla was pretty.
She carried off that risqué plunging neckline well, and the hair and makeup balanced out her look perfectly.
We love celebrities trying out something different on the red carpet, but this Vera Wang outfit worn by Sonam Kapoor was
definitely a no-no. Everything waist up was perfect. But those pants looked funny.
