Attention, Sneakerheads! The Weeknd X Puma Is 2017s Rad Kick’s Collab

Attention, Sneakerheads! The Weeknd X Puma Is 2017s Rad Kick’s Collab

No matter how many slides you buy right now or whichever shoe silhouette you think works best for you, it’s not going to change the fact that sneakers are here to stay! Whether you’re styling them with your basics or teaming them up with dresses and more, kicks will be the IT-shoe, as it has been for many seasons now. So much so that people from the music industry such as Kanye (Adidas Yeezy Boost by Kanye West), Rihanna (Fenty Puma by Rihanna Collection) and even Wu-Tang Clan (Wu-Tang Clan x Nike Dunk High) have collaborated to design sleek shoes for the brands. And now, our very own Starboy a.k.a The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye) has come up with his signature Puma Parallel shoes, in collaboration with the German sportswear brand.

The Weeknd has been Puma’s brand ambassador from September 2016, so this creative move was rather expected. After his Puma X XO apparel collection, that is made up of streetwear staples like tees, jackets and pants, shoes (read: sneakers) was but the obvious choice in terms of designing. While one would have thought it’d been a unique design, the Puma Parallel is pretty simple — a high-top and lace-up sneaker in premium leather. Featuring a boot silhouette with a zippered heel, the midsole of these kicks are chunky. In an interview with Footwear News, The Weeknd said, “I want it (Puma Parallel) to be part of pop culture. I want to walk down the street and see kids wearing it and women wearing it. I want to see the pope wearing it. I want to see [Barack] Obama wearing it. I want to see Elon Musk wearing it.”
