Manish Malhotra’s signature designs have always been all things grand. Which is also why he’s touted as one among the country’s finest couturiers. Showcasing the grand finale at India Couture Week 2017, Manish showcased an extremely soft and breezy yet luxurious collection titled Sensual Affair. It was a lot unlike last year’s display, one that had Achaemenid influences and thus allowed heavy silhouettes.
Think sheer corsets with voluminous skirts, neck-plunging gowns with intricate embroidery, slit sleeves on blouses and long-train gowns with capes and more for women. Men wore asymmetrical jackets and bandh galas with cigarette pants. The hues started from ivory whites and ranged from bottle green and champagne hues as well as maroons. Working with luxurious fabric like velvet, silk and tulle among others, elements like spangles and plumes were used frequently. Malhotra ensured to use his signature embroidery throughout. Overall, the couturier maintained his stance on bridal wear — modern silhouettes in tandem with traditional Indian craftsmanship.
Showstoppers for the event Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh were a riot on the ramp. While Alia sported a stunning neck-plunging jacket with a lehenga that had surface embellished roses, Ranveer worked a royal blue sherwani teamed with checked pants.
