Karleo is a Mumbai-based designer label offering pret-a-couture and couture ensembles for special occasions, specialising in wedding gowns, bridal accessories, cocktail and evening gowns. Their garments are nothing short of being a perfect blend of rich Indian aesthetics and Western silhouettes that designers Karan Berry and Leon Vaz incorporate into them. Owing to a brand belief that each garment has a personality of its own, the distinct feature in a Karleo outfit is that no two pieces are similar in style.
The designer duo unveiled their latest bridal couture collection today at Dresswalla House, Fort, Mumbai. in the past, their artistic and splendid collections have been inspired by spices, astrology and white symphony. This year’s theme for their collection titled Garden of Eden drew inspiration from the untouched beauty of the Eden Garden. Karan and Leon designed and created each garment keeping the charm and essence of nature in mind.
Adhering to a colour palette of gorgeous pastel shades like mint, peach, ivory, a few gowns in white, bright red and a pale green, the designers used fabrics like tulle, silk, crepe, satin and mesh for Garden Of Eden. Their gowns were embellished with beads, ostrich feathers and Swarovski crystals as well. They’ve used different techniques like handpainting, which is their signature style, along with applique manipulation and mirror work as well. Their designs also had motifs like deer, serpents, hand-pasted florals, leaves and butterflies. We particularly loved the hand-beaded tasselled gown in green, with intricate embellishments on sheer. Apart from gowns, they also designed bridal accessories including crystal headpieces, neckpieces and heels.
We caught up with designer Karan Berry at the launch, who shared a few details about his dreamy collection. He exclaimed, “It is inspired by the Garden of Eden, by forbidden love!” We asked him what the one fashion tip for our readers would be, and he mentioned the importance of adding the right accessories to an ensemble! “An accessory can make or break your look, especially shoes,” Karan said. He emphasised on how women should opt for strappy heels as it only flatters the feet.
