The first Monday of May is a celebration for New York’s Upper East Side. It’s a day when the so-called ‘Oscars Of Fashion’ takes place. The Costume Institute Gala (aka Met Gala) is the annual fundraising event hosted at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. This year, the Met Gala 2018 marked the event’s 70th anniversary. Co-hosted by Anna Wintour, Amal Clooney, Rihanna and Donatella Versace, the main focus of the night was the theme of the exhibition ‘Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination’. Our fave celebrities went all out to re-imagine this ecclesiastical (and controversial) theme. But as always, only a few lived up to it. We’ve got all the details up ahead. Read on.
The Best Looks At Met Gala 2018
Global star Priyanka Chopra did not disappoint us one bit at this event. The desi girl made ‘quite’ an entrance on the red carpet, a second time for PC, and worked the theme like a pro. Blake Lively also exceeded our expectations, and looked exceptional. Zendaya, who always works stunning off-duty looks, gave us Joan Of Arc vibes, with no sartorial glitches whatsoever. Sadly, Deepika Padukone didn’t make it to this list (though we wished she sported a piece in tandem with the theme). Here’s a glimpse of the best dressed, so you’re up-to-date with the Met Gala 2018 looks.
All hail PeeCee. Priyanka Chopra looked regal as ever in a Ralph Lauren gown. Oh, the bejewelled hood makes her look every bit celestial. Mother Mary vibes, shall we say?
Let’s just say when it comes to fashion, RiRi never disappoints. Rihanna, in a custom Maison Margiela by John Galliano, was all set to give the Pope a sartorial competition.
Co-chair of the gala, Amal Clooney, was as stunning as ever in a Richard Quinn floral gown.
Gigi Hadid gave the theme her own twist by wearing a Versace gown. We know this was inspired by the stain-glass mirrors of chapels. LOVE!
This was by far one of Lily Collins’ most dramatic looks. Inspired by the Dark Arts, she wore a black gossamer Givenchy gown and accessorised the outfit with a befitting crown.
Anna Wintour channeled an ethereal vibe in a Chanel gown.
Irina Shayk walked the red carpet with her beau Bradley Cooper and she looked stunning in a Versace gown.
Talk about THE look of the night. Blake Lively worked a panelled and intricately-embellished Versace gown. The spiked headgear looked amazing as part of the ensemble. PS: She had to skip her ride for a party bus thanks to her dramatic train.
Be sure of the Hadid sisters to bring some ensemble drama to the event. Bella Hadid channeled edgy vibes in a Chrome Hearts Official that featured a latex corset, leather cape, and lacy train.
Let’s just say Cardi B has officially made it to our ‘All-time best dressed list’, thanks to her stunning Moschino gown.
Does Cara Delevingne ever go wrong with her red carpet look? This time, she’s seen in Dior Couture. We’re in awe.
Taking the theme to another level with her Sistine Chapel-inspired dress, Ariana Grande looked stunning in Vera Wang.
Did Joan Of Arc just make an appearance on the Met Gala 2018 red carpet? Oh wait, that’s our fave Zendaya in an Atelier Versace gown. That armour though!
Ruby Rose was seen in a Tommy Hilfiger dress. She looked great.
Kim Kardashian made quite an appearance in a Versace gown.
Kendall Jenner was seen in an Off-White by Virgin Abloh jumpsuit.
There’s no way Jennifer Lopez could have missed a spot in the best-dressed list with her Balmain gown. Exceptional, ain’t it?
