And The Pantone Colour Of The Year 2018 Is…

With every year end, the only announcement that matters to the design and fashion world is that of the colour of the year. Last year, Pantone Colour Institute was inspired by nature and declared Greenery as the 2017s colour. And it’s only about time that the colour consulting company, which is responsible for inspiring the hues in design and fashion trends as well as cultural moods, decided what 2018s colour will be.

And they have! Ultra Violet, “a provocative and thoughtful purple shade,” according to Pantone has been announced as The Colour Of The Year 2018. Calling it one of the most complex of all colours, Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute said, “…it takes two shades that are seemingly diametrically opposed — blue and red — and brings them together to create something new.” Eiseman also mentioned that this hue was chosen because “we wanted to pick something that brings hope and an uplifting message.”

Talking about cultural relevance, shades of purple have been symbolic of various musical icons including Prince, David Bowie, and Jimi Hendrix. While Ultra Violet may be sartorially interpreted in many ways by people in the upcoming seasons, we have already seen a glimpse of it in the Spring Summer 2018 collections. Let’s take a look at it, so you can start pinning everything that inspires you.
