Shoe Styling 101: Leave The Runway Out, Not The Glamour

Shoe Styling 101: Leave The Runway Out, Not The Glamour

A girl can never have too many shoes. And while that always stands correct, sometimes it can get difficult to make a runway shoe seem practical in your everyday life. You love the stunning shoes that you see on the runway, but ever get confused about how exactly you’re supposed to make them fit into your personal style and outfit?

Now that fall’s here, the fashion world is on a roll with the newest trends catching eyes everywhere. Who doesn’t want the runway look on the street? From studded heels to borrowing from the boys, here are the latest shoe trends decoded just for you!

Embellished Dazzle

This is a trend that’s super-versatile and can be played up or down, depending on how brave you’re feeling! It’s not only stylish, but also fun and can spruce up your date night look a whole lot better than your suede pumps ever will.

The great part about embellished shoes is that they’re here to stay and are available in a variety of options to choose from. Crystal-covered, bejeweled, candy-colored pom-poms, studded – there really is no end to them. Want to play it low-key? Try pairing your embellished shoe with a basic T-shirt or tank top and a pair of your favourite skinny jeans, a classic/cool handbag, and there you go – you’re sorted! The look will allow your statement shoes to be the centre of attention without making it look like you’ve put in too much effort – exactly what you wanted, right?

If you want to kick it up a notch, you can pair your studded shoes with your favorite dress – just make sure the dress is not too heavy on print or you’ll be risking a major fashion disaster, one where you’d have too much going on in your outfit!

Up High

Thigh-high boots are completely in right now and as we enter winter, there’s no better time than now, to get your hands on a pair! There are multiple reasons why this trend is so universal and loved, the first being that it’s so easy to blend into a look and says ‘fall’, like nothing else does.

Try pairing them with a summer dress that you love and a winter coat, or even better, you can skip the summer dress for a sweater dress and pair it with your boots and be totally ready to go!

Another cool look is to use your thigh-high boots to elevate your basic skinny jeans and sweater outfit. Pair them with a bold statement bag and you’re ready!

WM tip: Since we Indians do not reside in the coldest parts of the world (except some of us), we do not always get to experience thigh-high boots kind of weather. So, invest in calf-length boots instead, and pair those up with matching thigh-high socks.

Big Blocks

Let’s take a moment to thank the shoe Gods because the most practical shoes in the world are now the trendiest! These block heels offer not only support and save you from all the pain that your stilettos make you go through, but are also a refreshing alternative from all the usual heels that have been done and dusted for years now.

These shoes are versatile, adorable AND perfect for wearing all day long. They’re great for office wear, so you can pair a coloured block heel with your crisp white shirt and trousers for a pop of colour or you can get your hands on a swankier pair that’s perfect to be paired with your LBD for a night out. They’re the easiest trend to rock and that’s probably why they’re so loved.

Back to the 90’s

The military boots from the 90’s are back and this time they’re bigger and bolder. You can rock this look with a classic T-shirt and distressed jeans, or take the road less travelled and pair it with a feminine dress and leather jacket. The first look screams 90’s grunge while the second is more Spice Girls inspired. Either way, take your pick because this is one trend that’s here to stay.

WM tip: Combat boots with a checks shirt, denims and a black handbag is one look that’s been tried and tested, and loved. So, if you’re someone who’s scared to take the plunge, try this look and be assured you’ll end up impressed.
