The fashion time machine takes us back to the 90s – the grunge era, which was known for its elegantly wasted look. Throw in a flannel shirt over an attire and you go back to the time, where the look was carefree and rebellious; where the attitude overpowered the appearance. So, this spring think Beverly Hills 90210 and don the badass 90s look!
The denims will be seen in their high waist ‘mom jeans’ avatar. Not just this, the dramatic decade saw the denims totally wrecked and ripped. Don’t shy away and slash your jeans to show off your sexy legs. The rugged boyfriend cut is slightly sagging, and should be teamed with something loose like an oversized tee or boxy sweatshirt. To make it fun, you can wear neons or chic prints.
Just Slip – In
The 90s look also brings back the slip-in dress. Though you don’t have to be as outrageous as Kate Moss in a sheer dress; still taking a cue, you can pick up dresses that are soft and flowy. Don’t fret if you don’t have that zero size figure; opt for dresses with pleats. Complete the look with strappy shoes or leather sandals. For the little extra zing, you can don a jacket or oversize cardigan or anything fringed!
If you thought dungarees were a thing of the past, think again! They are back with a bang. Whether it’s in denim or leather, the trick is to get the fit right. Though it’s meant to be a bit slouchy, it should still accentuate your figure. Pick a loose shirt but make sure it stays inside the dungarees and doesn’t ooze out. High heels or a dressy pair of flats seals it.
Crop it up
Belly button baring high cut tops were a big hit in the 90s. And, they have now comeback as crop tops. You can pick high waist pants or skirts, which do not allow much skin to show. But who can stop you, if you want to go all out and flaunt those flat abs. Available in varied colours, textures and shapes, these itsy bitsy pieces are making it to the red carpet and award shows, so don’t miss out on one.
Chokers were a rage in the 90s and were seen in different materials such as plastic tattoo chokers, neon raver chokers, candy chokers, even pearl-and-diamond-encrusted chokers and you guessed it right; they strike back! They are now seen comfortably sitting at the base of the neck and even bear heavy pedants. They are versatile and can be teamed with high crew-neck tops and deep V necks. For that oomph, wear one with a blazer or tuxedo jacket.
