Curtain Raiser—Textile India 2017

Curtain Raiser—Textile India 2017

Post Vastrabharana we have been hooked to Indian textiles and designs curated using hand-crafted materials. When we got to hear of Textile India 2017 we couldn’t wait to give you a little peek into it too. As the curtain raiser for the event ended yesterday on the 18th of April, the main event has been scheduled to go up from the 30th of June to the 2nd of July in Gandhinagar and is going to be inaugurated by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi himself.  The Ministry of Textiles presented the curtain raiser for the event and was attended by Minister of Textiles Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani and Minister of State Shri Ajay Tamta. Weavers and craftsmen from all around the country have been called on to showcase their craft. From carpet weaving to various fabric displays and metal work, all will be exhibited by the artisans at the main event. The curtain raiser displayed works like Anita Dongre’s Bagru block prints and Ritu Kumar’s embroidered saris. The event saw designers like Sabyasachi, Rohit Bal, Manish Arora and many other craftsmen displaying their textile varieties ranging from cotton-silks to Khadi.
A big salute to the Government of India and the Ministry of Textiles for initiating an event to celebrate one of India’s oldest crafts.
